A Day in The Life

Life has suddenly got a lot busier. Work is getting more demanding. I only started my job last November and in construction where jobs take years to come to fruition and then a year or two to build I am only just getting to grips with what I have to do. I could moan about some aspects of my work, after all there are very few how actually enjoy going to work, but on the whole the job is not bad. With the new job I’m out of the house far less than when I was working in London. I can leave at 8:15 and get back home for about 5:45.

I now have much less free time in my working day, but much more free time in my home life. I should be able to blog more than I do! Mornings I like to sleep in foe and extra 45 minutes but then I get up, and feed the baby, get dressed and pile off to work. In the evenings there is my run (not every day, not that much recently if the truth be told). I often get roped in to helping the wife with her business, to looking after the baby or doing chores around the house. I finally get to sit down these days at around 8:30, but summer is coming an it makes the evenings much more fun. My social diary is filling up fast.

NIMBY's

As I’ve said I work in construction for a company who will, like me, remain strictly anonymous.

As part of my job I have to meet people on a monthly basis who do not want me to build my projects. Some people, but very few, are directly affected by the project in question. So, this means that I seem to get the world and his wife complaining about things that are not going to directly affect them.

My main bug bear is that these people don’t say Not In My Back Yard...They give me every reason under the sun why I shouldn’t build what and where I’m proposing. At a meeting recently I was accused of being a murderer. I have, despite knowing how to strip, clean and reassemble an SA80 in the dark (SA80 ), never killed anyone to the best of my knowledge. I would much rather the comments they give be constructive but say that there main objection was NIMBYism. We could hold a reasonable debate that way. I did actually have one sensible conversation with a NIMBY and I did a few tweaks to the project to help him. Nether of us were particularly happy but we reached a sort of compromise.

I know that this situation will never change; it is something that, as part of my job, I just have to live with.

Anyway, today is Friday which means the weekend is ahead of us. Have a good weekend folks

Still Here

I'm still here and alive.

I've just spent a lovely week on the Costa Del Sol with the family and now busy at work.

I have a few stories from Spain and a few fustrations from work to blog about in the near future, but today I have non stop meetings.
